Her Dark Curiosity by: Megan Shepherd

Title:  Her Dark Curiosity
Author:  Megan Shepherd
Genre:  Horror, Thriller, Mystery, Historic, Retelling, Romance, YA/Teen
Age:  14+
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Summary:

To defeat the darkness, she must first embrace it.

Months have passed since Juliet Moreau returned to civilization after escaping her father's island—and the secrets she left behind. Now, back in London once more, she is rebuilding the life she once knew and trying to forget Dr. Moreau’s horrific legacy—though someone, or something, hasn’t forgotten her.

As people close to Juliet fall victim one by one to a murderer who leaves a macabre calling card of three clawlike slashes, Juliet fears one of her father’s creations may have also escaped the island. She is determined to find the killer before Scotland Yard does, though it means awakening sides of herself she had thought long banished, and facing loves from her past she never expected to see again.

As Juliet strives to stop a killer while searching for a serum to cure her own worsening illness, she finds herself once more in the midst of a world of scandal and danger. Her heart torn in two, past bubbling to the surface, life threatened by an obsessive killer—Juliet will be lucky to escape alive.

With inspiration from Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, this is a tantalizing mystery about the hidden natures of those we love and how far we’ll go to save them from themselves.

Reaction:

Well, wasn't that just one heck of a thrill ride!  This book definitely kept me guessing.  I never guessed that ------- would be our mystery killer!  Megan Shepherd did such a good job at the mystery aspect of the book that I had no inkling about whodunit!  Also, if you thought that the first book was gory, think again.  This one takes everything in the first book, makes it ten times scarier, and then adds very descriptive death scenes...I loved it, but if you are afraid of that kind of stuff, this book isn't for you.  Seriously, this series is not for the faint of hearted, as I'm sure Cait will agree with me.
I love/freak out about how Juliet has changed in her character.  For the better?  For the worse?  You'll just have to read and find out.  I'll only tell you this...my hypothesis about her dress color changes in my "Madman's Daughter" post was spot on.  You can check it out if you want to.
Btw, I just want to say this, I love that cover!

Romance:

I never knew that I would have such conflicted feelings between the two main guy characters.  I defiantly thought I was team Montgomery, but now I'm not so sure.  Let's be honest, Edward is not that bad of a guy.  Sheesh!  This series is just giving me all the feels!

Overall:

I am regretting not buying the last book when I had the chance.  I could be reading it right now instead of talking about how much I want it!  Yep, guys, that is how good this series is.  If you are thinking about checking it out from the library or buying it, please save yourself the heartbreak and get all the books at once, because once you start this series you will not want to stop!
